Yusi (Jo) Fu is an illustrator and artist based in Beijing/London.
Raised in a multicultural environment, Jo has developed a unique drawing style that seamlessly blends Eastern sensibilities with Western influences. Her artistic inspirations span a wide range of figures, including David Hockney, Louise Bourgeois, Saul Steinberg, Edward Lear, Sanyu, Feng Zikai, and Mu Xin.
Humor has been a cornerstone of Jo’s work from the very beginning, reflecting the playful and insightful nature of her art. With a background in illustration and printmaking, she creates a diverse array of artworks, from comics and paintings to commercial commissions and traditional prints. For Jo, the artistic process is a language that conveys her self-reflections and observations on daily life.
To Jo, media serves as a form and not the aim itself. As she aptly describes, "a discipline, an ordering, according to the needs of content." This approach transforms media into a vehicle for deeper understanding of the world, art, and herself.
